The Chicago Bears might not be quite as bad as you think. They aren't great, but they might have a chance to go into Edward Jones Dome and surprise the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
Bears vs. Rams 2015 picks and predictions: St. Louis expected to knock off Chicago
Rams rookie sensation Todd Gurley will face Chicago’s porous run defense.
After getting blown out in their first three games, the Bears have gone 3-2 in the last five, including wins over the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers. With a win over the Rams, they could produce the unusual achievement of sweeping all three teams that are trying to move to Los Angeles.
Chicago also beat the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium and only lost to the Minnesota Vikings by three points. So that's not a bad stretch for a team that looked like a contender for 0-16 after three weeks of the season. Of course, we're ignoring the elephant in the room -- the Bears also lost to the Detroit Lions in that stretch. If they play like that against the Rams, they will lose and lose badly.
Unfortunately for the Bears, they could be going to St. Louis without Matt Forte, who has been sidelined with a knee injury. Rookie Jeremy Langford stepped up last week against the Chargers and could be carrying the load against a strong Rams run defense. St. Louis isn't nearly as good against the pass, so Jay Cutler will need to have a big day.
When St. Louis has the ball -- while it will be odd to see Nick Foles throwing the ball to Wes Welker -- the story should be pretty simple. The Rams have Todd Gurley; the Bears have the 27th-ranked run defense. Handoff, rinse, repeat, profit.
Three of the eight experts at CBS Sports think the Bears will pull off the mild upset, while it is 6-1 for the Rams here at SB Nation. PFT Commenter didn’t make picks this week. He was busy.
