Mario Williams leaves Jets game with illness

Williams left the game early in the first half.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams left Thursday's game against the New York Jets with an illness. Williams was probable for the Thursday Night Football matchup with a calf injury but started the game as expected. There was no word from the Bills in the first half, as Williams left the game at some point in the first quarter, going to the sideline and then to the locker room.

When the second half got started, the Bills announced that Williams left the game due to an illness. Williams did not record a tackle prior to exiting.

Williams had 14 tackles and three sacks heading into the game. He’s an integral part of Buffalo’s stout defensive front, but he has been banged up this season. He was limited by injury leading up to Buffalo’s last game with a knee injury, and was a limited participant in practice this week with the calf injury.

In 138 career games, Williams has 381 tackles, 94 sacks, 16 forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. He's playing in his fourth season with the Bills. He was originally drafted by the Houston Texans with the first pick of the 2006 NFL Draft.
