Broncos lose 2nd straight, Peyton Manning benched in 29-13 Chiefs win

Brock Osweiler replaced Peyton Manning in the Broncos’ tough loss to the Chiefs.

The Denver Broncos entered Week 9 with a 7-0 record and no "real" potential losses on the record until they face the New England Patriots in Week 12. But two weeks later, they're sitting at 7-2 after dropping an awful game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Kansas City dominated the game from start to finish, winning 29-13.

When it was all said and done, the Chiefs defense picked off five balls, which the Chiefs were happy to convert into points on offense. Peyton Manning, who set the record for most career passing yards in NFL history in the first quarter, threw four of those interceptions and was benched for the first time in a Broncos uniform.

Manning completed five of 20 passes for 35 yards with four interceptions, while being sacked twice. He was replaced by Brock Osweiler, who certainly played better but also made his mistakes. Osweiler took over a game where nothing was going right for the Broncos, and finished with 14-of-24 completions for 146 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Meanwhile, Alex Smith of the Chiefs had a standard game for him. He completed a decent percentage of his passes, generally protected the football and threw for a little over 200 yards and a touchdown. That's what Smith does, and coupled with the five offensive turnovers for the Broncos, it was enough to lead the Chiefs to victory.

Charcandrick West led the way rushing for the Chiefs, carrying the ball 24 times for 69 yards and a touchdown. He also led the way in receiving, with three catches for 92 yards and a touchdown. The Broncos only managed 69 rushing yards and 152 passing yards in total.

The Broncos are obviously still well-positioned with a record of 7-2, but there have to be some panicking within that organization. Manning looks like his old self at times, but more and more he looks depleted. His passes have nothing behind them and he's making mental errors, perhaps the biggest concern. The Broncos will play the Chicago Bears in their next game.

Kansas City improved to 4-5 on the season and will play the rival San Diego Chargers in Week 11.
