With Brian Hoyer still in the league’s concussion protocol, T.J. Yates will make his first NFL start since Week 17 of the 2011 season when the Houston Texans take on the New York Jets on Sunday. Brandon Weeden will serve as the backup after the Texans claimed him on Wednesday. The team announced Hoyer would miss the game on Friday.
Brian Hoyer out with a concussion vs. Jets
T.J. Yates will get the start in Week 11.

Hoyer was injured in the third quarter of Monday night’s upset of the Cincinnati Bengals and suffered memory loss, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. The team is hoping to have him back under center in Week 12 against the New Orleans Saints.
After trading the starting job back and forth with Ryan Mallett at the beginning of the season, Hoyer took over for good in Week 6 and has led the Texans to three wins in four games. Houston is now in a first-place tie with the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South. Mallett was released in late October after missing the team flight to Miami.
Hoyer is completing 59.5 percent of his throws for a tidy 12.1 yards per completion, one year after leading the league at 13.7 yards per catch in Cleveland. He’s thrown 13 touchdown passes to just four interceptions. Yates last started on New Year’s Day of 2012, but only threw four passes before giving way to Jake Delhomme in a 23-22 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
On Monday, Yates was 5 for 11 for 69 yards and a touchdown as the Texans surprised the undefeated Bengals.
