Devonta Freeman suffers concussion vs. Colts

Freeman left the game in the first quarter.

Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman left Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts with a concussion. Freeman was hit hard on a run and was taken back the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion in the first quarter. The concussion was confirmed and he did not return to the game.

Freeman was running very well before he left Sunday’s game. He had three carries for 43 yards, with a long of 39 yards before exiting the game.

This season, Freeman has been one of the league’s most productive running backs. He has 164 carries for 721 yards and nine touchdowns. That’s a per-carry average of 4.4 yards. Before the season, running back was labeled a huge weakness for the Falcons, and they drafted Tevin Coleman with the intention of eventually making him the starter.

Prior to this year, Freeman hadn’t done much. He had 248 yards and a 3.8 yards per carry average as a rookie with the Falcons last season. But he’s broken out in a big way and came into this week third in the league in rushing yardage.
