For most of 2015, experts have been waiting for the Seattle Seahawks to get things straightened out and return to the form that led to back-to-back Super Bowl trips. But they enter Week 12 with just a 5-5 record, and many experts are taking the Pittsburgh Steelers to drop the Seahawks under .500 again.
Steelers vs. Seahawks 2015 picks and predictions: Experts split in crucial wild card matchup
The Steelers and Seahawks both need a win to stay in good position in the wild card races, and experts can’t agree which team has the edge.
The Steelers have battled through injuries for much of the year, including problems for Ben Roethlisberger that have kept him out of the starting lineup for half of the team's games. One of those games was in Week 10 when he was supposed to be the backup quarterback for Landry Jones, but was forced into action early due to an injury for Jones. Roethlisberger promptly shredded the Cleveland Browns for 379 yards through the air.
With Roethlisberger able to heal up during a Week 11 bye, the Steelers are primed to grab a spot in the postseason if the team can keep finding wins down the stretch. After traveling to Seattle in Week 12, the Steelers are scheduled to face three AFC division leaders -- the Colts, Bengals and Broncos -- in the next three weeks, so putting together a winning streak could be tough.
But the Seahawks need wins too. At 5-5, the team is unlikely to catch the 8-2 Arizona Cardinals, but are still very much in the NFC Wild Card race.
At CBS Sports, experts on an eight-man panel are perfectly split with four picking each team. On ESPN’s 13-man panel, the Seahawks have the slight majority, edging the Steelers seven to six.
SB Nation’s team is siding with Pittsburgh. Four are taking the Steelers to improve to 7-4, while Joel Thorman and PFT Commenter are picking Seattle along with the OddsShark computer. Resident Seahawks fan Matt Ufford is going the safe route and just picking “Whiskey” on Sunday.
