NFL picks and predictions, Chargers vs. Jaguars 2015: Jacksonville favored to win 3rd straight

The Jaguars have won two straight and experts think they’ll pick up a third against the Chargers on Sunday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have put together a couple consecutive wins for the first time this season, and though they sit at only 4-6 their spirits are high. Quarterback Blake Bortles is playing well and the Jags have an easy schedule for the remainder of the season. If young playmakers like Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson continue to perform, the Jaguars could even be looking at winning out, given the low level of competition they have coming up.

Jacksonville's remaining six opponents are a combined 24-36 on the season. The Atlanta Falcons are the best team they have yet to play, and they have already beaten the Tennessee Titans once this season. Bortles threw for 242 yards in that first meeting with the Titans last week and the Jaguars won that game, 19-13.

The San Diego Chargers are their next opponent, and while the Falcons grade out much better overall, the Chargers are dangerous as well. Philip Rivers has had a phenomenal season despite consistent injuries to his offensive play makers. Rivers has completed 68.6 percent of his passes for 3,211 yards with 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He lost Keenan Allen for the season, and all of Malcom Floyd, Antonio Gates and rookie running back Melvin Gordon have dealt with minor injuries.

But Rivers is still finding a way to put up yardage and points. It’s just that the Chargers don’t have a great defense to back him up even when he’s playing great on offense. Rivers is second in the NFL in yardage. He will be facing a Jacksonville defense that ranks 20th in the league in total yards per game, and 25th in the league against the pass.

As far as experts are concerned, most are in the corner of the Jaguars. Over at CBS Sports, seven of the eight experts think the Jaguars will win it. At ESPN, it’s a total shutout, with all 13 experts going against Rivers and the Chargers. Here at SB Nation, it’s a similar spread, with all but one expert picking Jacksonville, including the OddsShark computer.
