Geoff Schwartz is latest Giants starting OL to suffer big injury

Schwartz will have to miss some time with a lower leg fracture.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

New York Giants offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz sustained a fractured left leg against Washington on Sunday. Schwartz was rolled up on and limped to the sidelines, where he was examined by the medical staff. The Giants eventually announced he sustained a fracture and that he would not return to the game.

Schwartz will have to miss some time, but it's unclear at this point how long he'll be out. Regardless, it's a huge loss for the Giants. The 29-year-old was the best offensive lineman starting Sunday's game and the Giants had already lost two interior linemen prior to the game. Schwartz is usually the right guard, but he kicked over to the left side as Justin Pugh, the starter at that spot, missed his second consecutive game with a concussion.

Center Weston Richburg is also out with an injury, moving Dallas Reynolds and John Jerry into the lineup. Reynolds started at center and Jerry started in Schwartz's spot at right guard. Ereck Flowers and Marshall Newhouse are at left and right tackle, respectively. Rookie Bobby Hart came into the game at left guard when Jerry went down with an injury.
