Eli Manning struggled big time when the New York Giants needed him to succeed the most on Sunday, throwing three interceptions in a losing effort against Washington. Manning, who received a massive contract extension worth $84 million over four years back in September, completed just 26 of 51 passes for 321 yards with two touchdowns in the game, a 20-14 win for their NFC East rivals.
Odell Beckham Jr. tried his hardest to bail out Eli Manning in Giants’ loss
It was a bad day for Eli Manning and the Giants, who fell to 5-6 after losing to Washington.

The first of his touchdown passes was a 40-yarder to Reuben Randle, while the second was an absolutely ridiculous catch by Odell Beckham Jr. on third down. Beckham finished the game with nine catches for 146 yards and a touchdown. He is Manning’s most reliable target, with 863 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games this season.
A receiver like Beckham can make any quarterback look good, especially when he lays out for balls that would be uncatchable for most players in the league.
It was Manning’s third game of two-plus interceptions this year. Prior to Sunday, Manning had only thrown six picks all season, which put him on on pace for the fewest since his rookie season.
Manning has 20 games with three or more interceptions since his rookie season in 2004, and according to ESPN Stats and Information, no other player has more than 13 in that same span. Although he threw those two touchdown passes to make it a game late in the fourth quarter, it was too little, too late and interceptions like the one below turned out to be incredibly costly.
Manning had another teammate open right in front of him on that play, but he tried to force it past three Washington defenders for the player in the back of the end zone.
Manning's new deal pays him an average of $21 million per season, ranking him fourth in the league among quarterbacks. He comes in just behind Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and Ben Roethlisberger.
The Giants have several tough games coming up, with the Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings still remaining on the schedule. With the loss on Sunday, the Giants fall to 5-6 on the season. They are in a first-place tie in the NFC East with Washington, which is now in control of the division.
