San Francisco 49ers tight end Garrett Celek left Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals with an ankle injury. Celek went down hard on his ankle and was taken to the sideline. He was eventually carted back to the locker room and the 49ers announced his return to the game as questionable. When the third quarter got underway, the 49ers announced he would not return to the game.
49ers TE Garrett Celek injures ankle vs. Cardinals
Celek was carted to the locker room in the first quarter against Arizona.

Celek did not have a reception before suffering the injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s game.
Prior to this season, Celek was primarily the third-string blocking tight end with little upside as a receiver. But since Vernon Davis was traded to the Denver Broncos, Celek has taken on a larger role. Backup Vance McDonald hasn't played well, so Celek has essentially passed him on the depth chart as well.
Celek has caught 19 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns this season. He has more touchdowns than any other 49ers player and has been an excellent blocker this season. The 49ers can't catch a break, and McDonald is now the starting tight end, with rookie Blake Bell potentially seeing more playing time.
