Jimmy Graham out for year with torn patellar tendon

Graham went down trying to haul in a deep touchdown pass.

Seattle Seahawks tight end Jimmy Graham left Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a knee injury, and the team confirmed after the game that he sustained a torn patellar tendon. He will require surgery and will miss the remainder of the season, including any potential playoff run.

Graham was trying to haul in a deep touchdown pass in the end zone and his right foot seemed to twist awkwardly when it touched the turf. Graham stayed down on the ground while being attended by the Seattle medical staff.

Graham was eventually given an air cast to stabilize his right leg and and was carted off the field to the locker room. The Seahawks announced he would not return to the game. The injury occurred early in the fourth quarter, with the Seahawks trailing the Steelers by a single point. Graham had four catches for 75 yards before exiting the game with the injury.

Acquired in a huge trade with the New Orleans Saints this offseason, Graham is a big part of Seattle’s offense. He’s being used as a blocker much more than he was in New Orleans, but he has caught 44 passes for 530 yards and two touchdowns this season. He’s second on the Seahawks in receiving yards and is a reliable, big target for quarterback Russell Wilson.

Luke Wilson is the top tight end behind Graham. He has caught 11 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown this season.
