Odell Beckham Jr. can’t appreciate his most jaw-dropping catches

Beckham’s best moments have come in Giants losses and he’s not a fan of celebrating in defeat.

Odell Beckham Jr. added another ridiculous reception to his highlight reel on Sunday, but it wasn't enough to lead the New York Giants to a win over Washington. Beckham's diving, one-handed touchdown grab cut the Washington lead to 20-14, but the Giants blew their chance to win on a final drive.

The disappointing end to the game put a damper on Beckham’s highlight and the second-year receiver wasn’t in the mood to celebrate the catch.

“It really doesn’t matter, man,” Beckham told reporters after the game. “You get 60 minutes to play, and we didn’t execute. We didn’t do a good job, we came out flat. Too many mistakes, too many everything. Sometimes you have to tip your hat to the other team. They came out here fired up, came out to play and they did exactly that.”

The touchdown grab for Beckham came less than a week after the anniversary of the miraculous catch he made against the Dallas Cowboys that launched him into superstardom. In that game, Beckham's touchdown gave the Giants a 14-3 lead in the second quarter that the team eventually gave up in a 31-28 loss.

Beckham wasn’t ready to celebrate that catch either.

“It really means nothing without a win,” Beckham said. “We still go home at the end of the day with a loss. That’s not fulfilling.”

Just a couple weeks ago, Beckham nearly led the Giants to a win over the New England Patriots. An 87-yard touchdown for Beckham, the longest ever allowed by the Patriots under Bill Belichick, was one of his only receptions of the game, but a would-be, go-ahead touchdown for the receiver was ruled incomplete after it was batted out of his hands by Malcolm Butler in the end zone.

While many complained that the NFL’s complicated catch rules robbed Beckham of a heroic touchdown to pull the upset, the receiver blamed himself for the loss and said he shouldn’t have left it up for the officials to decide if it was a touchdown or not.

Beckham’s 142-yard day against Washington on Sunday improved his season total to 1,005 yards. In 23 career games, Beckham has 2,310 yards and 21 touchdown receptions.
