Here we go again. The Cleveland Browns have announced quarterback Johnny Manziel will be back in the starting role when the team faces the San Francisco 49ers.
NFL picks and predictions, 49ers vs. Browns 2015: Experts leaning toward San Francisco
He’s baaaaaack ...
Just one week after being embarrassed by the Bengals, the Browns are moving on from one-game starter Austin Davis and hedging their bets on Manziel. This will be the second-year's fourth chance at starting this season, and barring any other off-field mistakes, the position is his to lose. His other starts have resulted in 56 completions for 712 yards and four touchdowns. He also recorded one of the teams three wins as a starter.
Wide receiver Brian Hartline had a good showing against the Bengals with 83 yards on eight catches, and could be a favored target for Manziel. The team also signed wideout/quarterback Terrelle Pryor just ahead of the Week 13 matchup, and although he was inactive last week, he could suit up against the 49ers and add some needed speed to the offense.
Quarterback Blaine Gabbert is making the most of his time as the starter in San Francisco. He has shown he can be a threat on the ground as well as in the air, recording a 44-yard rushing touchdown in addition to a 71-yard touchdown pass to wideout Torrey Smith on Sunday. Smith has become Gabbert's favorite deep threat, now with three 70-plus-yard receptions for touchdowns this season.
The Niners are now 4-8 heading into Week 14, and in addition to running back Carlos Hyde being sidelined for the sixth straight game, they announced that tight end Garrett Celek will be added to the injured reserve list for the remainder of the season. The team's defense isn't very strong either, though neither is the Browns' offense.
The experts at CBS are somewhat split between the Niners and Browns, with the panel slightly favoring San Francisco by a 5-3 margin. Here at SB Nation, things look the same. Five of our eight experts expect the 49ers to come away with a win in Week 14.
