The Indianapolis Colts need a win to stay atop the AFC South, and in theory a matchup against the typically moribund Jacksonville Jaguars would be the perfect way to achieve that. But so far in 2015, little has gone the Colts' way.
NFL picks and predictions, Colts vs. Jaguars 2015: Experts divided on divisional matchup
Jacksonville has a chance to knock off the division’s wounded alpha dog and win its biggest game in years.
Forty-year-old Matt Hasselbeck will take the field once again for Indy this week in place of Andrew Luck, who's now missed five weeks with a lacerated kidney. Up until last Sunday, the Colts were undefeated with Hasselbeck under center. But that changed in a big way in their 45-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football.
It was an atrocious effort for the Colts, who were dominated on both sides of the ball. Hasselbeck only threw for 169 yards in the loss to go along with two interceptions.
The Jaguars' offense isn't nearly as good as Pittsburgh's, but Jacksonville possesses a couple of playmakers who the Colts will have to look out for. The Jags' leading receiver is Allen Robinson, who caught three touchdowns last week in their 42-39 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Robinson is Jacksonville's first 1,000-yard receiver since 2005.
Second-year quarterback Blake Bortles has played well over the last three weeks, completing 65 percent of his passes and throwing for 893 yards to go along with eight touchdown passes. He could have a big day against the porous Colts pass defense, which is ranked third-worst in the league.
The Colts are undefeated in the AFC South yet again this season, but they appear to be in a vulnerable spot. Though the Jaguars don’t have a realistic chance at the playoffs in 2015, a win Sunday could go a long way towards cementing their status as an up-and-coming team in the division.
The experts aren't sure how this game will go. The ESPN crew favors the Colts by the slimmest of margins, while five of CBS Sports' eight analysts are picking the Jaguars to come away with the upset. Here at SB Nation, our eight experts are split right down the middle.
