Thomas Rawls out for the season with a broken ankle

Rawls left in the first quarter against the Ravens. The rookie’s season is now over.

Seattle Seahawks running back Thomas Rawls is out for the rest of the season with a broken ankle, head coach Pete Carroll announced after the team's 35-6 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Rawls left the game in the first quarter after he went down holding his lower leg and ankle. He had six carries for 44 yards before exiting.

The rookie had been the team's starting running back while Marshawn Lynch is recovering from abdominal surgery. Rawls is the leading rusher for the Seahawks on the season, with 147 carries for 830 yards and four touchdowns. Lynch has just 417 yards and three touchdowns, with quarterback Russell Wilson coming in second with 456 yards.

An undrafted rookie out of Central Michigan, Rawls has a 5.6 yards per carry average on the season, and is coming off a 101-yard game against the Minnesota Vikings. Veteran Fred Jackson and DuJuan Harris are the primary backups at running back, while fullback Derrick Coleman could also see more carries.
