J.J. Watt will play with broken hand vs. Patriots on ‘Sunday Night Football’

Watt broke his hand on Wednesday, but he’ll be active against the Patriots on Sunday night.

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt will play against the New England Patriots on Sunday. Watt was a surprise addition to the injury report after he broke his hand in practice Wednesday.

Despite the injury and the fact that he missed practice on both Thursday and Friday, Watt was listed as probable on the official injury report and everyone expected he would be able to play.

Watt currently has 13.5 sacks on the season and is a big reason the Texans recently put together a four-game winning streak. That streak came to an end in Week 13, but the Texans are still in the running for a playoff spot and Watt will need to be at the top of his game if the Texans are going to make it.

A first-round pick by the Texans in 2011, Watt has 70.5 career sacks. He put up 20.5 sacks last season and 20.5 sacks in 2012. He is 1.5 sacks away from reaching 15 on the season, and he would be only the second player in NFL history to record three separate 15-sack seasons in his first five years in the league.

Watt has not missed a single game in his NFL career.
