The New York Giants and Miami Dolphins are both 5-7, which means there aren’t many direct playoff implications when they face off at Sun Life Stadium on Monday Night Football. Both teams are just looking to keep their .500 hopes alive at this point.

With both teams’ seasons teetering on the brink, the Giants and Dolphins face must-win scenarios on Monday night.
The Giants are in a better position thanks to being in the putrid NFC East, where they’re tied with Washington and the Philadelphia Eagles as of Sunday morning. The schedule isn’t as friendly, though -- after the Dolphins, their last three games are against the Carolina Panthers, Minnesota Vikings and Eagles, so a winning record doesn’t look likely at this point.
Aside from Odell Beckham Jr. and Eli Manning, New York doesn’t have anything going for it on offense. The defense has been equally as forgettable and got an unneeded distraction earlier this week, when Damontre Moore was released after a series of locker room incidents.
But despite those problems, the Giants have a fairly clear path to January football. The same can’t be said for the Dolphins, who are more-or-less playing out the string. Miami already got swept by both the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills this season and have almost no hope of leapfrogging either team for a wild card spot.
Joe Philbin is a distant memory by now, and interim coach Dan Campbell probably won’t get the full-time job. Miami squeezed out a close win against a depleted Baltimore Ravens team that didn’t inspire confidence -- Ryan Tannehill threw for just 86 yards in that game. The good news is that Lamar Miller woke up again, rushing for 113 yards in the win.
