The Houston Texans' postseason hopes may rest on the performance of Brandon Weeden after an injury to quarterback T.J. Yates forced the team to go to its third option at the position.

T.J. Yates suffered a season-ending ACL tear in a win over the Colts in Week 15.

Yates, 28, was the starting quarterback for the Texans with Brian Hoyer still out with a concussion, but he went to the locker room after suffering a season-ending ACL tear.
Neither Yates nor Weeden was on the roster at the beginning of the season. The player who originally battled Hoyer for playing time, Ryan Mallett, was released after missing a team flight.
Weeden started three games for the Dallas Cowboys earlier in the season, but posted an 0-3 record and managed to throw just one touchdown pass in those three starts before he was benched in favor of Matt Cassel and eventually released.
The Texans edged the Colts to improve to 7-7 and grab a one-game lead in the AFC South with two weeks left to play. According to CBS, the emergency quarterback for the Texans after Weeden is punter Shane Lechler, although the team will almost certainly add another option if Hoyer isn't cleared to return from his concussion soon.
