LeSean McCoy suffers MCL injury vs. Washington

LeSean McCoy did not return in Week 15 after suffering a knee injury.

James Lang-USA TODAY Sports

Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy suffered an MCL injury in a loss to Washington and his status in the final two weeks of the season is now in doubt. The team announced that McCoy was questionable to return from the injury, but he was quickly downgraded to out after leaving to the locker room.

There are conflicting reports regarding the severity of the injury, with NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport calling it a sprain and ESPN’s Adam Schefter calling it a tear. More details will likely be available after McCoy undergoes an MRI which he is scheduled to do on Monday.

McCoy, 27, missed two games earlier in the year due to a hamstring injury, but leads the team with 895 yards and three touchdowns on the season. Before his injury, the Bills’ offense was struggling to get going and finished the first half down 21-0. While Buffalo managed 25 points in McCoy’s absence, it wasn’t enough to win.

The Bills have Karlos Williams back after missing the last two games with a shoulder injury. Gillislee took some snaps for the team in Williams' absence and tallied 65 yards on 10 carries over the previous two weeks.

McCoy was acquired by the Bills in the offseason in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. In six seasons with the Eagles, McCoy made three Pro Bowls. He also led the NFL in rushing during the 2013 season with 1,607 yards and nine touchdowns.
