The 2015 season hasn't gone as planned for neither the New Orleans Saints nor the Detroit Lions, who each entered the season hoping an explosive offense could carry the team. Instead, a Monday Night Football matchup between the two teams in Week 15 is a battle between teams that are essentially out of postseason contention.
Lions vs. Saints 2015 picks and predictions: Experts evenly split in ‘MNF’ battle
The Lions and Saints won’t be playing in the postseason, but could light up the scoreboard against each other’s bad defenses on Monday.
Detroit is already mathematically eliminated at 4-9 after dropping back-to-back games. After a 1-7 start to the year, the Lions bounced back with a three-game winning streak, including a Thanksgiving blowout of the Philadelphia Eagles. However, a Hail Mary loss to the Green Bay Packers was followed by a loss to the St. Louis Rams and the Lions are back in the cellar of the NFC.
The Saints technically aren't eliminated yet after beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week to improve to 5-8. No team has allowed more points than the New Orleans defense and the Detroit defense is also in the bottom five in points allowed. That could mean plenty of passing yardage and points put on the scoreboard by Drew Brees and Matthew Stafford on Monday night.
At CBS Sports, Will Brinson is the only one on the eight-man panel to take the Lions to win, while ESPN’s 13-man panel is unanimously siding with the Saints.
SB Nation’s team is much more split on the matchup. Four on the seven-man panel are taking the Saints, but Stephen White and Danny Kelly, the two most accurate pickers on the panel, are each taking the Lions. The OddsShark computer makes it a perfect 4-4 split by siding with Detroit, too.
