Monday Night Football has yet another subpar matchup on its hands with the New Orleans Saints (5-8) hosting the Detroit (4-9). Neither team has much to play for at this point, with draft position being the only real thing at stake.

This is certainly a football game being played on national prime time television.
After a 1-7 start and a front office housecleaning, the Lions rallied to three straight wins and actually had legitimate hopes of finishing .500. Those hopes were brutally crushed by Aaron Rodgers’ Hail Mary touchdown Thursday night, and the Lions were officially eliminated from playoff contention the next week. With Jim Caldwell likely looking for a new job in three weeks, it’ll be interesting to see how the Lions get motivated for this final stretch of the season.
Things aren’t looking much better in New Orleans, with the Saints losing four of their last five games to fall out of the NFC Wild Card picture. The future is looking increasingly murky, with Sean Payton’s status, Drew Brees’ contract and another salary cap mess being the biggest question marks in the offseason. Will Payton stick around for a rebuild, or does he take his talents to South Beach, as has been rumored most of the season? We may have our answer in just a few weeks when the coaching carousel starts spinning in earnest.
On paper, this game looks like a stinker, but we could be in for lots of points, which are always fun to watch. Brees is still playing at a high level, while Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate should light up fantasy scoreboards against the Saints’ atrocious defense. With the regular season winding down, we’ll take what we can get.
