The Seattle Seahawks (9-5) rallied nicely after losing four of their first six games and managed to clinch a spot in the postseason with a win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 15, their fifth consecutive victory.
Rams vs. Seahawks 2015 live stream: Start time, TV schedule and how to watch online
The Seahawks will try and get revenge on the Rams while boosting their bid for the fifth seed in the NFC.
Unfortunately, the Seahawks lost too many games early in the season and they are unable to win the NFC West, which has been clinched by the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona will be fighting for a first-round bye over the next two weeks, while the Seahawks will jockey with either the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings or Atlanta Falcons for the fifth seed.
The Packers currently hold the lead in the NFC North and, like the Seahawks, have clinched a playoff berth. But they can still lose the division to the Vikings, especially with a Week 17 game against their rivals. While they battle it out, Seattle will just try and ensure they don’t wind up with the sixth seed, as one spot can make a huge difference.
Seattle can improve their chances and potentially play spoiler in Arizona's bid for a first-round bye with a game against the Cardinals in Week 17. But first, they need to concentrate on the team that handed them their first loss of the season: the rival St. Louis Rams.
St. Louis traded away Sam Bradford, acquired Nick Foles and gave him the starting job. He hasn't played great football over the course of the season, but he's shown flashes of strong play.
In the first game between the two, Foles completed 18 of 27 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown. The Rams rushed for just 76 yards on the ground, but were able to punch in a pair of rushing touchdowns. Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson completed 32 of 41 passes for 251 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and the Seahawks rushed for 124 yards as a team.
That game ended in favor of St. Louis after the Seahawks fought back with 18 points in the fourth quarter to take the lead late. A Seattle fumble late in the fourth gave the Rams a tie and sent it to overtime, where they kicked a field goal and stopped the Seahawks on fourth down to walk out with the 34-31 victory.
But the Rams hold a 6-8 record, good for third place in the NFC West but not particularly impressive. At one point, they had a five-game losing skid derailing their season, but strong play in the past two games has resulted in a pair of wins. With Case Keenum starting at quarterback, the Rams beat the Detroit Lions, 21-14 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 31-23. They downed the Buccaneers last week.
Keenum had his best game as a pro against the Buccaneers, completing 14 of 17 passes for 234 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Wilson has been excellent for the Seahawks in recent weeks. He has thrown at least three touchdown passes and no interceptions in five straight games, while receiver Doug Baldwin has 10 receptions in his last four games, joining Jerry Rice as the only players to accomplish that.
