Colts’ QB situation is likely a guy who has never played and Josh Freeman

Morris was signed by the Colts on Christmas Eve and on an active roster for the first time in his career in Week 16.

The Indianapolis Colts are down to signing quarterback options off the street in Week 17 and could start Stephen Morris, who they signed last Wednesday from the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad. Head coach Chuck Pagano said on Monday that Morris is the likely starter for the Colts in the regular season finale, though he said they might not officially decide until Sunday. Andrew Luck will not play Sunday, while backup Matt Hasselbeck is unlikely to be ready and other backup Charlie Whitehurst is out for the year.

With only Morris healthy and ready to go, Pagano said the Colts worked out former Tampa Bay Buccaneers first-round pick Josh Freeman on Monday and signed him to the active roster on Tuesday. The team also signed quarterback Ryan Lindley, who's spent time with the Cardinals and Patriots during his time in the league.

Freeman most recently played for the Brooklyn Bolts of the FXFL (Fall Experimental Football League) and is doing his best to mount an NFL comeback after unsuccessful stints with the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants and Miami Dolphins following his release from the Buccaneers in 2013.

Morris was an undrafted free agent in 2014 and spent his entire rookie season on the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad. He was released by the Jaguars in September and claimed by the Eagles, where he spent almost the entire 2015 season on the team's practice squad.

On Sunday, Morris was on an active gameday roster for the first time in his career, just a few days after he was signed by the Colts on Christmas Eve, and now a week later, he is expected to start against the Tennessee Titans.

Luck hasn’t played for the Colts since suffering a kidney laceration in Week 9 and missed time early in the year with a shoulder injury. He practiced on a limited basis before Week 16, but was ruled out and Pagano said on Monday that there isn’t an update on Luck’s progress.

Whitehurst was placed on injured reserve and Hasselbeck has a shoulder injury that has him doubtful for Week 17. The Colts aren't technically eliminated from the postseason, although they would need a win over the Titans and nine other games to go their way, including a win for the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football.
