The Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans met in a battle of terrible uniforms just two weeks ago and will rematch in Week 13 in a lower stakes battle now that neither team are directly in postseason contention after Week 12 losses. While neither team is officially eliminated from the playoffs, top 10 NFL Draft picks are much more likely than playoff games for either team.
Jaguars vs. Titans 2015 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch online
The Jaguars beat the Titans just two weeks ago, but needed a late punt return to beat a team that edged them in total yards and time of possession.
Jacksonville is much closer than the 2-9 Titans to staying in the playoff race, and the Jaguars can improve to 5-7 with a second win over Tennessee in three weeks. But with recent winning streaks for the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans, the Jaguars are now two games back in the AFC South and AFC Wild Card races, and would need some help to climb back into contention.
Step one is helping themselves by earning a win against the Titans. After losing to the San Diego Chargers at home in Week 12, the Jaguars have proven capable of losing to any team, despite a resurgent season. And the Titans have already proven to be a dangerous team with Marcus Mariota leading the way.
While the offense hasn't been nearly as explosive as it looked like it would be following a Week 1 destruction of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Titans offense has exploded for 33 or more points three times. In seven of the team's nine losses, the Titans managed just 14 points or fewer, though.
Improving the offense will be an offseason priority for the Titans, but the defense is already close to elite. The unit is No. 8 in total yards allowed, and would likely be even better if they had a little more help on the offensive side of the ball. The average opposing drive starts on the 28.7 against the Titans, which is the No. 5 worst mark in the NFL.
The Jaguars aren't particularly great on either side of the field with the No. 21 offense and No. 18 defense, but young playmakers like Blake Bortles, Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns and T.J. Yeldon give the team plenty to be optimistic about. When the Titans and Jaguars met two weeks, Tennessee had difficulty containing Robinson who finished with five receptions for 113 yards, though the Titans did keep the Jaguars to just 19 points.
But despite more total yards, less turnovers and more time of possession than the Jaguars, the Titans just didn’t score points and it ended up costing the team a win. Were it not for a clutch punt return by Jacksonville’s Rashad Greene in the final minutes of the game, the Jaguars could have been the losing end, but just 13 points for the Titans left that door open for the Jaguars.
The Jaguars and Titans have a tight history between the two franchises with Tennessee leading in the all-time series with a 22-19 record. During the best years of the Jaguars franchise, they consistently stumbled over the Titans, but have won six of the last 10 meetings, including each of the last two.
