The halftime show garners a whole lot of attention before, during and after the game. There are those who are always hopeful for a good show, and those who simply want to see if the NFL can do any worse than some of the more forgettable performances in recent years. Fortunately for the league, they’ve had some hits too, specifically with Beyonce in 2013.

Beyonce’s performance was one of the most well-received halftime shows ever. Bruno Mars’ halftime also drew high marks for his halftime show last year. The Red Hot Chili Peppers aspect of that show left something to be desired, but all in all, this year’s performers do have some recent history to live up to.
Katy Perry is headlining the halftime show and will be performing the show alongside Lenny Kravitz. Perry is a noted sports fan and one of the biggest pop stars in the world at the moment, while Kravitz is a music legend. It’s an interesting balance, given the league has occasionally come under fire for bringing on past-their-prime musicians to perform the show in recent years.
That’s not a statement to Kravitz so much, just noteworthy that they’ve once again paired youth with a longtime veteran (last year’s pairing of Mars and Red Hot Chili Peppers certainly falls under that criteria). Missy Elliott will also reportedly join Perry on stage at some point during the show.
Whatever other surprises may be in store will soon be revealed now that the halftime show is minutes away. If you’re already watching the game then you’re all set: Just keep the TV on NBC. But if you wanted to catch the show online, you can do so at NBC Sports. They’re live streaming the Super Bowl and will carry the halftime show in its entirety. Fans can also watch on NFL Mobile if they have Verizon.
