Super Bowl 49 is officially a wrap, and Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch did not grab his crotch. He scored a touchdown late in the second quarter, but it was a fairly short run. He has saved the crotch grabs for bigger runs. Adam Schefter tweeted that a crotch grab may have occurred off camera, but if it was not on TV, it did not matter.
Super Bowl prop bets 2015: Did Marshawn Lynch grab his crotch in Super Bowl 49?
The Super Bowl features a random mix of prop bets, with a few mixed in pertinent to recent events. Super Bowl 49 is no different as one version of Marshawn Lynch’s touchdown celebration is in the mix. Did Beastmode grab his crotch on Sunday?
The odds that he would grab his crotch were 4/1, while the odds he would not were 1/6. The latter odds were likely that low because the NFL had threatened the Seahawks with a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty if he made any obscene gesture during the game.
This was probably the most unusual prop bet available in the 2015 Super Bowl. It was not a surprising one, though, because Super Bowl prop bets are frequently connected with recent events. In this case, Lynch has been in the news due to his celebration after particularly electric touchdown runs. Lynch was fined $11,050 after grabbing his crotch as he scored against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 16. He was then fined $20,000 for grabbing his crotch after scoring a touchdown in the NFC Championship Game. The first known time he made the gesture was during his BeastQuake run against the New Orleans Saints in the 2011 playoffs.
Seattle wound up losing to the New England Patriots, when Russell Wilson was intercepted in the red zone with under a minute to go in the game. Many felt it was a mistake to go with a passing play in that situation, and thought that Lynch should have been the guy to carry the football. Had he done that and scored, New England wouldn't have had any time to bring the game back, so Lynch certainly could have gotten away with doing it then. But it didn't happen.
