Super Bowl 2015 score: Seahawks lead Patriots heading into 4th quarter, 24-14

The Seattle Seahawks lead the New England Patriots heading into the final quarter of Super Bowl 49.

The Seattle Seahawks lead the New England Patriots, 24-14, heading into the fourth quarter. The Patriots looked like the better team in the first half, but Seattle dominated both sides of the ball in the third quarter.

The third quarter got started off with a bang, as Seattle wide receiver Chris Matthews caught his third pass of the day, another huge one that put him at 100 yards for the game. That's such a big deal given that Matthews didn't have a single NFL reception before this game. That put Seattle in scoring position, and Steven Hauschka kicked a 27-yard field goal to put the Seahawks up.

Then the Patriots, who looked in control in the first half, started to crumble at the seams. They started letting the pass rush get to Tom Brady, who threw his second interception of the day, this one to Bobby Wagner. The Seahawks quickly drove downfield with big plays, and Russell Wilson hit Doug Baldwin for a touchdown, giving them a 24-14 lead.

The Patriots got on the board first in the second quarter, when Tom Brady hit Brandon LaFell for the first touchdown of the game. That came after a drive in which he was picked off near the end zone, so he definitely made up for that turnover. But the Seahawks did respond in the same quarter, when a Chris Matthews reception set up a Marshawn Lynch touchdown.

The Patriots thought they'd take a lead into the half when Rob Gronkowski caught a touchdown pass in the final two minutes, but Matthews caught a huge touchdown pass on the ensuing drive to tie it up heading into the half.
