Former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston will be in shape when he arrives at the NFL Scouting Combine, according to quarterback coach George Whitfield Jr., via USA Today. Winston has made headlines recently after a picture of him with his stomach puffed out surfaced online.
Jameis Winston will show up to NFL Combine in shape, says QB coach
The Heisman Trophy winner also hasn’t decided whether he’ll throw in Indianapolis.

Whitfield says that the picture, which notably includes a rope wrapped around Winston’s waist, was taken on the second day of workouts this offseason. “He’s lost about 12-15 pounds,” Whitfield said, but noted that Winston also wasn’t particularly bothered by the photo. Winston laughed it off and said that he’s “going to be out in front of the world in a couple of days anyway,” according to Whitfield.
When he does take the field in Indianapolis, Winston hasn't made up his mind if will throw or not. Whitfield called it a "game-time decision." Whether Winston throws at the combine isn't as important as how he performs in interviews, though. Aside from issues with interceptions, Winston is known for being a fundamentally sound quarterback on the field, with solid timing and the ability to run a pro-style offense.
But off the field is another story, and how he conducts himself in interviews with teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans and New York Jets should be his top priority. Winston is considered one of the top two quarterbacks in the draft, next to Marcus Mariota. Unlike Winston, Mariota doesn't have significant off-the-field concerns, but he also didn't run a pro-style offense in college.
Both Winston and Mariota will go through their combine workout drills Saturday with the rest of the quarterbacks at Lucas Oil Stadium.
