NFL Combine 2015: Time, TV schedule and how to watch online for Friday

The start of the combine’s television coverage and on-field workouts is finally here.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Indianapolis is the center of the NFL universe for the next several days, with more than 300 of the top draft prospects converging downtown at Lucas Oil Stadium for the 2015 NFL Combine, ready to showcase their skills and talent to a bevy of scouts and personnel from all 32 teams. Players started arriving on Tuesday and by the end of Friday, all the position groups will be here.

Friday marks the start of the combine’s television coverage and the most-hyped part of the entire process -- the on-field workouts, which include position-specific drills and various athletic tests. The first players who will participate in these intense workouts are the special teamers (kickers, punters), offensive linemen and tight ends.

Aside from the positional skill drills, the prospects are measured and timed in several different tests: 40-yard dash, vertical leap, broad jump, 3-cone drill and shuttle drill. Although Friday’s position groups for the on-field workouts are not the most entertaining, it’s still always fun to watch large men in hi-tech workout gear running the 40 and showing off their pancake blocks.

Although most the attention will be on these on-field workouts, there is still a ton happening in Indy away from the TV cameras. The glamor group of quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs will attend an NFLPA meeting, undergo psychological testing, interview with teams and perform the bench press. This might be the most critical day for some of these prospects who come to Indianapolis with questionable backgrounds and off-field issues.

The defensive lineman and linebackers are scheduled to get their medical exams and measurements, and also are required to meet with the media and continue interviewing with interested teams. The defensive backs finally arrive in Indianapolis on Friday, and shortly afterwards will go through the registration and orientation process on their first day at the combine.
