Earl Thomas will undergo surgery on torn labrum, per report

The Seahawks safety played through the Super Bowl with a fully torn labrum and will now be sidelined 6-8 months after surgery.

Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas will have surgery on a fully torn labrum, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Thomas was dealing with the injury in the NFC Championship and played in the Super Bowl with it, but he's expected to be 100 percent by the time training camp rolls around.

It’s a pretty big deal that he was able to play in the Super Bowl and look as effective as he did. The surgery will sideline Thomas for quite some time, with an expected timetable of 6-8 months, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Thomas was one of several members of Seattle's secondary who were dealing with ailments. Fellow safety Kam Chancellor and cornerback Richard Sherman were both injured in the NFC Championship, while cornerback Jeremy Lane broke his arm in the Super Bowl.

Sherman was reportedly expected to undergo Tommy John surgery on his elbow, but that may no longer be the case. Chancellor, on the other hand, is expected to have surgery at some point this offseason. He was listed as having a “knee bruise” leading up to the Super Bowl, but wound up playing with a torn MCL.

The Seahawks lost the Super Bowl, though the defense played just about well enough to win it. The game essentially came down to an offensive misstep for the Seahawks. One of the top priorities for the Seahawks this offseason will be ensuring that guys like Thomas, Sherman and Chancellor all make speedy recoveries.
