Rams, Eagles trade Sam Bradford for Nick Foles

The Rams and Eagles completed a Tuesday afternoon quarterback swap, sending Nick Foles to the Rams and Sam Bradford to Philadelphia. The deal was first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN, and has since been confirmed.

The deal will include multiple draft picks. The Eagles will send a 2015 fifth-round pick to St. Louis. The Rams will send a 2015 sixth-round pick and a 2016 second-round pick, according to Albert Breer. However, according to Breer, if Bradford doesn’t start eight games, the second round pick becomes a fourth-round pick. If Bradford is re-injured, the pick becomes a third-round selection.

St. Louis had been adamant about Bradford’s status with the team, going so far as to include him in their search for a new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Rumors about their interest in Foles first surfaced on Monday morning. The team had reportedly been trying to renegotiate a deal with Bradford to reduce his $13 million salary in the sixth and final year of his rookie deal.

Here’s how the cap hit breaks down, but the Eagles could also hammer out a new contract with Bradford, which would change the financials.

Bradford is something of a known commodity in Philadelphia. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur had the job with the Rams in 2010, when Bradford won the Rookie of the Year award.

The Eagles re-signed Mark Sanchez earlier this week, and they now have two young but experienced quarterbacks on the roster. They’ve also been linked via the rumor mill to former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, who head coach Chip Kelly recruited during his time as the Ducks head coach. It remains to be seen if the Eagles still plan on drafting a quarterback or opening the 2015 season with the duo of Bradford and Sanchez on the same roster.
