Former NFL safety Darren Sharper pleaded guilty to two counts of forcible rape and a count of simple rape in New Orleans as part of a global plea deal Monday, according to The New Orleans Advocate. Sharper pleaded guilty to sexual assault in Arizona, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison but will only serve nine years. Sharper is also getting credit for the year he has already spent in jail. He will reportedly begin to serve his sentences in federal prison before moving to state prison.

Sharper, 39, is imprisoned in Los Angeles for drugging and raping two women there in 2013, charges to which he pleaded no contest Monday, according to the Associated Press. He’s expected to serve half of a 20-year sentence for that case. He also has been charged with rape in Las Vegas and will reportedly serve an eight-year sentence.
Under the agreement, Sharper can serve the sentences concurrently. Once released from prison, Sharper will be placed on probation and be registered as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
Sharper was working as an analyst for NFL Network before being accused of these alleged crimes, which ultimately led to his quick dismissal. He had also been suspended previously by the network after he was arrested for drug possession in January 2014.
The New Orleans charges came in December, when he was indicted after allegations that he served women shots of alcohol laced with Ambien and morphine before bringing them up to his hotel room.
During his career, Sharper played 14 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings, making the All-Pro team six times.
