The Tennessee Titans hold the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, and Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota is emerging as a strong possibility. Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt is "very impressed" with Mariota, according to Jim Corbett of USA Today.
Ken Whisenhunt ‘very impressed’ with Marcus Mariota, says he’ll be a Day 1 starter
The Titans hold the second pick in the draft, and their coach is a big fan of Mr. Mariota.
It is anticipated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take Jameis Winston with the top pick, giving Tennessee the option of trading down, taking Mariota, or selecting defensive help such as an outside linebacker or Leonard Williams. The Titans are without a sure-fire franchise quarterback, with last year's sixth-round pick Zach Mettenberger slated to be the starter. In seven games last season, Mettenberger threw for 1,412 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Mariota was spectacular in college with Oregon, winning the Heisman Trophy in 2014 on his way to the National Championship game against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Many believe Mariota needs some seasoning before stepping into an NFL huddle, but apparently Whisenhunt disagrees.
