Chris Johnson stable after being shot in the shoulder

Johnson was a victim of a drive-by shooting, and another person he was with has died.

Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

Former Tennessee Titans and New York Jets running back Chris Johnson was shot in the shoulder early Sunday morning in Orlando, but he is expected to be fine, according to multiple reports. Johnson had been training and was home for the weekend.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported that Johnson was in a car at the time, and it took gunfire. The driver was killed, but Johnson and another person in the car are in stable condition at an Orlando hospital, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Johnson was arrested on a misdemeanor firearms charge in January. The Jets declined to pick up his 2015 option, so he will become an unrestricted free agent on March 10. After initially becoming a star with the Titans due to his breakaway speed and 2,000-yard season in 2009, Johnson’s production has tailed off. He struggled to catch on with the Jets and rushed for a career-low 663 yards and one touchdown in 20014.
