Tony Romo weighed in on one of his team’s more controversial signings in recent years, Greg Hardy, on Wednesday. In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys quarterback talked about second chances for players, or anyone else, with a stain on their public record.
Tony Romo thinks Greg Hardy deserves a ‘second chance’
The Cowboys quarterback was defending his team’s decision to sign Greg Hardy this year.

“I just think with some people, stuff ends up getting found out about and they have to deal with it and take responsibility for it, especially when you’re in the public eye. I just think that everybody deserves a second chance. I think that’s just part of what we should be doing as people and as teams,” Romo said.
Hardy and the Cowboys agreed to an incentive-laden one-year contract worth $11.3 million in March. He had 34 sacks in five seasons with the Panthers, including 26 during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
The move was panned by some because of Hardy’s past. Last year, he was found guilty of domestic assault, but the case was dropped on appeal when the accuser did not show up for the trial. He ended up missing 15 games with the Panthers in 2014 on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list, while the league looked into the particulars of the incident. Hardy still faces a suspension from the NFL, which could be as much as six games under the league’s new domestic violence policy.
“I still think Ray Rice and Greg Hardy deserve another chance, just because I feel like everybody has their skeletons in their closet,” Romo added.
