Former LSU offensive tackle La’el Collins, one of the top prospects in this weekend’s NFL Draft, has left Chicago to cooperate with police in Louisiana for an investigation into the murder of his ex-girlfriend. Collins is reportedly not considered a suspect in the case, and Albert Breer reports a police interview has been set up for after the draft.
La’el Collins to be questioned in ex-girlfriend’s murder, not considered a suspect
One of the top tackle prospects in this year’s NFL Draft left Chicago in order to cooperate with police in Louisiana.

Collins’s ex-girlfriend, Brittany Mills, died after being shot multiple times last Friday. Mills was eight months pregnant, and the child was delivered and is currently in treatment. Police reportedly wish to talk to Collins in part to determine the paternity of the baby, according to NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal.
“He’s not a suspect, but we are seeking to question him,” Corporal Don Coppola told Breer. “He knew the victim. We’re not sure of the exact nature of the relationship. But for the investigation and through the investigation, we’re exhausting all avenues to locate this young lady’s killer.”
NFL general managers were informed of the incident Tuesday, Rosenthal reports. FoxSports’ Peter Schrager says multiple teams have called Collins “undraftable” until the incident is fully solved.
