With the No. 147 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers selected quarterback Brett Hundley of UCLA. Hundley is one of the top quarterbacks in the draft class, but was often considered in the second tier of passers behind Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota.
NFL Draft picks 2015: Brett Hundley goes to Packers in 5th round
Brett Hundley has a high ceiling as a quarterback, but will need some seasoning to become a better pocket passer.
The 2015 draft class is relatively weak at the quarterback position, with most of the discussion revolving around Mariota and Winston. Guys like Hundley, Bryce Petty of Baylor and Garrett Grayson of Colorado State are all talented, but aren’t necessarily ready to step into a starting role.
Hundley was a second-team All-Pac 12 selection in 2014, finishing his UCLA career with 75 touchdowns and 11,677 total yards. He’s a scrambling quarterback and needs to work on his ability to read defenses. He also hasn’t shown much from the pocket at this point in his career, and needs at least a year of development before he can start.
That said, Hundley does have a high ceiling. He’s athletic and has a strong arm with the accuracy to hit his man downfield. He is comfortable moving around in the pocket, but hasn’t been as accurate from when setting up and throwing as one would like to see.
