Adrian Peterson threw a tantrum about NFL contracts on Twitter

The disgruntled Vikings running back had a few things to say about NFL contracts on Thursday.

Adrian Peterson wants some work done on his contract and he's not being particularly shy about letting the team know. The Vikings running back went off on a lengthy Twitter rant Thursday afternoon, posting a string of contract-related comments.

It’s been a tumultuous offseason for Peterson regarding his status with the team, with reports suggesting he wants to be traded, he won’t play unless he has a new contract and everything in between. The latest is that he’s trying to “secure” his future with the team, according to Josina Anderson of ESPN, which essentially translates to him wanting more guaranteed money over the last three years of his contract.

Peterson, who is set to make $12.75 million with the Vikings this season, pointed out that teams can release players from contracts at basically any time, and called contracts one-sided. Peterson has $32 million set to go his way in 2016 and 2017, but none of that money is guaranteed and the team can release him at any point if they feel he’s not living up to that dollar amount.

This is the tweet that started it out, and Peterson went on from there:

But ...

And, hey, at least he made the top 100.

He later attempted to clarify that his tweets were not directed at the team:

Peterson is in an odd situation at this point. He missed 15 games last season due to off-field issues related to a child abuse case. He later brought a case against the NFL over his suspension and won. Since the end of the season multiple reports have suggested he was unhappy with the way the Vikings treated him during 2014.

Now he’s a full season removed from productive play, has a ton of money coming his way this season and is getting near the sell-by date for a running back on top of that. Minnesota putting a substantial amount of guaranteed money into his deal may not be likely until they can see him looking like his old self on the field, but it’s unclear whether Peterson will even play without more guaranteed money coming his way.
