Adrian Peterson wants some work done on his contract and he's not being particularly shy about letting the team know. The Vikings running back went off on a lengthy Twitter rant Thursday afternoon, posting a string of contract-related comments.
Adrian Peterson threw a tantrum about NFL contracts on Twitter
The disgruntled Vikings running back had a few things to say about NFL contracts on Thursday.

It’s been a tumultuous offseason for Peterson regarding his status with the team, with reports suggesting he wants to be traded, he won’t play unless he has a new contract and everything in between. The latest is that he’s trying to “secure” his future with the team, according to Josina Anderson of ESPN, which essentially translates to him wanting more guaranteed money over the last three years of his contract.
Peterson, who is set to make $12.75 million with the Vikings this season, pointed out that teams can release players from contracts at basically any time, and called contracts one-sided. Peterson has $32 million set to go his way in 2016 and 2017, but none of that money is guaranteed and the team can release him at any point if they feel he’s not living up to that dollar amount.
This is the tweet that started it out, and Peterson went on from there:
I love people who think they know it all! Smh, Research how many NFL teams hasn't honored a player's contract & learn something.
— Adrian Peterson (@AdrianPeterson) May 28, 2015 Question for the people, is a contract two sided or one?
— Adrian Peterson (@AdrianPeterson) May 28, 2015 Ok great two sided! Well why when one party decides ... Mr. ? we wan't you to take a pay cut now or better yet flat out release you!
— Adrian Peterson (@AdrianPeterson) May 28, 2015 There's never no talk about honoring a contract!
— Adrian Peterson (@AdrianPeterson) May 28, 2015 I know hundreds of player's that wished their team would've HONORED the contract! But instead got threw to the side like like trash.
— Adrian Peterson (@AdrianPeterson) May 28, 2015 A lill crazy how one side has so much power that they can do as they please when it come to the contract! But when the other-side (player's)
— Adrian Peterson (@AdrianPeterson) May 28, 2015 Feels for whatever reason! Family, Change of scenery or simply - what they feels just might work best for them! Those same laws don't apply!
— Adrian Peterson (@AdrianPeterson) May 28, 2015 It's all about honoring you're contract! Sounds like free will is being a lil challenged to me!
— Adrian Peterson (@AdrianPeterson) May 28, 2015 All I'm saying as a Minnesota Viking player! WE need the same power to do as all 32 teams do we they feel, under contract or not!
— Adrian Peterson (@AdrianPeterson) May 28, 2015 But ...
It's time for a change! Then again I'm grateful because at the end of the day, I know some of those same guys that wish a team held on!
— Adrian Peterson (@AdrianPeterson) May 28, 2015 And, hey, at least he made the top 100.
Also I appreciate all my colleagues for voting ya boy into the Top 100 ! Mad Love & Respect goes out to all of y'all (You All)! God Bless
— Adrian Peterson (@AdrianPeterson) May 28, 2015 He later attempted to clarify that his tweets were not directed at the team:
This is not against the Vikings. I am just frustrated that our union did not get guaranteed contracts for its players.
— Adrian Peterson (@AdrianPeterson) May 28, 2015 NFL players deserve guaranteed contacts like Our NBA and MLB brothers.
— Adrian Peterson (@AdrianPeterson) May 28, 2015 Peterson is in an odd situation at this point. He missed 15 games last season due to off-field issues related to a child abuse case. He later brought a case against the NFL over his suspension and won. Since the end of the season multiple reports have suggested he was unhappy with the way the Vikings treated him during 2014.
Now he’s a full season removed from productive play, has a ton of money coming his way this season and is getting near the sell-by date for a running back on top of that. Minnesota putting a substantial amount of guaranteed money into his deal may not be likely until they can see him looking like his old self on the field, but it’s unclear whether Peterson will even play without more guaranteed money coming his way.
