Bills vs. Jaguars in London will stream live on Yahoo

The Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars will play in a Week 7 game that is only available on Yahoo.

The NFL’s first-ever Internet-only game will be exclusively broadcast on Yahoo platforms, the league announced on Wednesday.

An early-morning game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills at Wembley Stadium in London on Oct. 25 will be live streamed to a global audience for free. It was previously announced in March that the game would be the first to be an exclusively online, but Yahoo then had to win a bidding war for the rights.

“The NFL has always been committed to being at the forefront of media innovation,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “Through this partnership with Yahoo -- one of the world’s most recognizable digital brands -- we are taking another important step in that direction as we continue to closely monitor the rapidly evolving digital media landscape.”

YouTube was reportedly among the other platforms that bid for the rights to the game, but Yahoo earned the right by paying at least $20 million, according to Peter Kafka of Re/Code.

The rights are a huge get for Yahoo, but also an interesting venture for the NFL, which will have the opportunity to experiment with a new form of distribution.

The Week 7 game is scheduled to have a 9:30 a.m. ET kickoff and is one of three games in London. Local television stations in the Jacksonville and Buffalo markets will be the only TV networks able to show the game.
