Odell Beckham Jr. offered professional baseball contract

The Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League extended a contract offer to Odell Beckham Jr. after his impressive showing at a celebrity softball game.

Odell Beckham Jr. brought the heat on the mound at a celebrity softball game on Friday and it was impressive enough to earn the New York Giants wide receiver a contract offer from a professional baseball team.

The Rockland Boulders of the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, also known as the Can-Am League, extended an offer for Beckham to become a pitcher for the club.

In an email to Lohud.com, Boulders general manager Shawn Reilly and the team’s pitching coach, Bobby Jones, raved about the potential that Beckham showed in his time on the mound.

“It’s apparent that Odell is a very gifted athlete regardless of his sport. We think that getting experience pitching to professional hitters will give him the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Deon Sanders and Bo Jackson,” said Shawn Reilly, Boulders General Manager, in an email. “As we are the New York area’s only defending professional championship team, he will have the opportunity to learn in a first-class environment while still in close proximity to MetLife Stadium”

Beckham was a three-sport athlete at Isidore Newman High School in New Orleans, but those three sports were football, basketball and track. While he doesn’t have much of a baseball background, he also hasn’t shown any indication that there is any athletic feat he’s incapable of excelling at.

While a detour to baseball is unlikely, a contract offer to play baseball just adds to the legend that Beckham has become in his meteoric rise to stardom. His rapid ascension even has some of his teammates concerned about the pressure now placed on the young receiver to perform.

The Rockland Boulders play in Provident Bank Park in Pomona, N.Y., just 30 miles from MetLife Stadium, the home of the Giants in East Rutherford, N.J.
