Minnesota Vikings cornerback Jabari Price has been suspended for two games for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, the team announced on Friday. Price’s suspension is related to a 2014 citation he received for driving while intoxicated. In April 2015, Price had the charges reduced and pleaded guilty to a single charge of careless driving.

The second-year corner will miss games against the 49ers and Lions.

“I sincerely apologize to my family, my teammates, the Vikings organization and Vikings fans for the mistake I made last winter,” Price said in a statement released through the NFL Players Association. “I can assure you that it will never happen again. I look forward to returning to helping my team on the field in Week 3.”
A two-game suspension is the baseline punishment for first-time violators of the substance-abuse policy. Since the Vikings announced the suspension, Price’s appeal process with the league has already gone through -- if it was used at all.
Price, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft, played in 14 games in his rookie year, mostly on special teams. Although he can still participate in offseason workouts and preseason games, his first regular-season appearance won’t come until Week 3 against the San Diego Chargers. He’s set to miss games against the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions.
