Bobby Wagner signs 4-year extension with Seahawks

Seattle locked down Bobby Wagner by agreeing to an extension with the linebacker.

The Seattle Seahawks won’t be parting with Bobby Wagner anytime soon after giving the All-Pro linebacker a new four-year, $43 million extension, according to Mike Garafolo.

Wagner had just one year left on the four-year, $4.3 million contract he signed after he was selected in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He was set to make just under $1 million during the 2015 season.

After starting 29 games for the Seahawks in his first two seasons, Wagner earned first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl recognition in 2014, despite missing five games. He even received a vote as the league’s MVP from former NFL head coach and current NBC analyst Tony Dungy.

This is the second major contract extension the Seahawks were able to get done before the first preseason game. After months of negotiations, quarterback Russell Wilson signed a massive four-year, $87.5 million deal with Seattle.

The Seahawks have plenty of key pieces secured for the future, and most of them are on the defensive side of the ball. Wagner joins Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman as defenders who have received extensions in recent seasons, while running back Marshawn Lynch also signed a new deal this offseason.

In three NFL seasons, Wagner has recorded 257 tackles, nine sacks and five interceptions. He also has 45 career postseason tackles and two interceptions, including one against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.
