Bill Belichick is facing one of the strangest situations that any NFL coach has faced in recent years. The preseason is halfway over, and he has no idea who his starting quarterback will be in Week 1, either Tom Brady or Jimmy Garoppolo.

Bill Belichick doesn’t know which QB should be preparing for Week 1, Geno Smith is practicing again, and more news from around the NFL.

On its own, that isn’t particularly unusual. Lots of teams have quarterback issues at this time of year, but it is almost always due to injury or on-field performance, not a federal court case over the starting quarterback’s looming suspension for ball tampering.
According to CSNNE, Belichick knows he just has to wait things out.
“Our goal is really to get everybody ready,” Belichick said. “We can’t just focus on one player. We have to get the entire team ready. That’s everybody’s part of the team. That’s what we’ve been doing. That’s what we’ll continue to do. At some point, that’ll change, but I don’t think we’re there yet.”
Geno Smith returns to practice field
Geno Smith was back on the practice field Monday, but he is still a long way from being ready to play. Smith, who is expected to miss 2-4 regular season games with a broken jaw, was able to stretch and jog with his teammates.
There’s no way of knowing if this means he’s ahead of schedule, behind schedule or just healing at a normal pace, but it seems to be a few slow steps in the right direction.
Quin: God wanted Nelson injured
When Vince Lombardi coached in Green Bay, he famously told his players that only God and family should be more important than the Packers.
Lions safety Glover Quin doesn't think the sentiment works both ways.

Johnny Football’s delivery causing arm problems
If a pitcher has a sore elbow because of his throwing motion, his coaches and trainers will work with him to fix it. If it happens to Johnny Manziel, you apparently just shrug and try not to worry about it.
Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo said that Manziel's natural delivery, which drops off to the side, will probably continue to cause him occasional elbow soreness -- the kind that caused him to sit out Monday's practice -- but it is too late to fix anything.
“You see a three-quarter release sometimes,” DeFilippo said. “I’m a big believer in once guys get to this level, you can help them with their lower body from the waist down. It’s really, really hard to change from the waist up. It really is.”
With Manziel sidelined for the day and Josh McCown dealing with a jammed finger, former quarterback Terrelle Pryor stepped into the breach.

Baltimore’s Lorenzo Taliaferro out with sprained MCL
The Ravens Twitter account updated the status of Lorenzo Taliaferro, who was expected to be Justin Forsett's top backup this year:

Seahawks re-sign Foxx, check out Satele
The Seahawks have added WR Deshon Foxx back to the roster after letting him go earlier in camp. The rookie was a wide receiver, kick returner and occasional quarterback last season at UConn.
Seattle also brought in veteran offensive lineman Samson Satele for a workout. Satele started all 16 games last season for the Dolphins and was a starter with Indianapolis in 2013.
