Packers DL Letroy Guion suspended 3 games for violating NFL substance abuse policy

The Packers will be without their veteran defensive lineman until Week 4.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Letroy Guion has been suspended for the first three games of the 2015 NFL season for violating the NFL's policy and program for substances of abuse, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The suspension stems from his arrest last February on felony charges of firearm and marijuana possession.

Guion, now entering his eighth season in the NFL, has gradually taken on more responsibility as his career has progressed. He didn't make his first start until Year 4 after being drafted in the fifth round in 2008 by the Minnesota Vikings. In 2014, Guion went to Green Bay, where he notched a career-high 3.5 sacks among 26 tackles last season in 16 starts.

He re-signed with the Packers last March on a one-year contract after reaching a $5,000 plea deal for his arrest. Given that the Packers have been abreast of Guion’s situation, it’s unlikely that he will be released by the team.

Guion appealed the suspension, but may not have had much of a case based on what police confiscated.

Guion will miss games against the Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs. He is eligible to return Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers.
