Randall Cobb suffers AC joint sprain against Eagles

A week after Jordy Nelson tore his ACL, Randall Cobb sustained an AC joint sprain against the Eagles.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb left Saturday's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a shoulder injury, but further tests indicated that no serious damage occurred. After an MRI, the Packers diagnosed Cobb with an AC joint sprain, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

It’s unclear if he’ll need to miss any time in the regular season but as Rapoport notes, it could have been much worse. The Packers believe Cobb has a “good chance” to play in the regular season opener for what it’s worth, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

Cobb went down hard on his shoulder and slowly walked to the sideline before being attended to by trainers. After a short while, he went back to the locker room with a trainer.

Cobb was second on the team with 91 receptions for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, trailing only Jordy Nelson. Unfortunately for Green Bay, Nelson was lost for the season when he tore his ACL in a previous preseason game. If Cobb's injury is at all serious, it would be a massive blow to an offense that saw both Nelson and Cobb eclipse 1,200 yards last season.

The Packers did not let Aaron Rodgers play in Saturday's preseason game, as they did not want to risk injury to their star quarterback. But some starters, including Cobb, did get some playing time. Brett Hundley made the start at quarterback. Jeff Janis, Ty Montgomery and Davante Adams are the top receivers behind Nelson and Cobb.
