HOW MUCH!? Transcripts from Tom Brady’s suspension appeal hearing were made public Tuesday evening now that DeflateGate is in the hands of the New York district court system. Brett Favre’s sexting scandal got brought up, as did the fact that investigator Ted Wells never told Brady that the contents of his cell phone would be used as evidence against him. The longer DeflateGate goes on, the further we seem to be getting from any sort of satisfying conclusion.
The only thing we know about DeflateGate anymore is that Ted Wells got PAID
Seriously, the man had to round to the nearest half million.
The only person who may come out ahead in this mess is Wells, who got paid “somewhere in the range of $2.5 million to $3 million.” (And yes, Wells apparently rounds to the nearest $500,000. It’s easier that way, you know.)
THE SCOUT’S SCOUT: Danny Kelly writes about Ron Wolf, who scouted and acquired NFL legends like Brett Favre and Marcus Allen, and fundamentally changed the way that front offices are run. Wolf is being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this week.
REWRITE THE SCRIPT: That’s what Ray Rice told ESPN he would like to do to repair his legacy after the fallout of his 2014 domestic violence arrest. Rice is eligible to be signed by an NFL team, but has seemingly garnered little interest, even though running back-needy teams still exist, including ...
AWW MAN NOT AGAIN: Arian Foster remains one of the most consistently productive running backs in the NFL, but he has missed 11 games over his last two seasons and will now likely miss the start of the 2015 season to undergo surgery to repair a groin injury. The Texans can turn to Alfred Blue and Jonathan Grimes, but neither has shown much during their careers. Otherwise, Houston can try its luck on the free agent market, where Rice waits along with Chris Johnson, Ahmad Bradshaw, Knowshon Moreno and others.
THAT WAS WEIRD: Jaguars GM David Caldwell confirmed on Tuesday that the team does not expect Justin Blackmon to ever come back to Jacksonville. In all likelihood, Blackmon will never play in the NFL again, ending what was a strange and briefly brilliant career.
EAGLES FANS ARE STILL MONSTERS: Just perhaps not the robot-murdering kind. Surveillance footage of a man in a retro Randall Cunningham jersey beheading hitchBOT, a lovable Canadian robot with wanderlust, turned out to be fake. That doesn’t necessarily mean that an Eagles fan DIDN’T commit robocide, however, just that the horrifying footage that went viral earlier this week was mercifully not real.
THE HOTTEST TAKE: Marcus Mariota has yet to throw an interception in Titans training camp, and there are people in this world who think that’s a bad thing.
PROMISES, PROMISES: Stan Kroenke once told fans he would do everything he can to keep the Rams in St. Louis. After a judge cleared the way for public funding for a new stadium, it’s time for the Rams owner to face his words.
OKOYE IS COMING: Lawrence Okoye is so close to making his NFL debut. The former Olympian told reporters that he’s feeling good enough to play after injuries marred his first two years of development with the 49ers.
OAKMAN IS COMING: Dan Kadar invited writers from around the SB Nation network to break down the draft talent coming out of the Big 12 in 2016. Baylor and TCU lead the way over Texas and Oklahoma. Defensive end Shawn Oakman leads everyone because he said so.
