Texans no longer expected to sign Pierre Thomas

Pierre Thomas was expected to sign with the Texans after Arian Foster went down with a groin injury.

The Houston Texans planned to sign veteran Pierre Thomas to fill the void left by Arian Foster's groin injury, but couldn't reach terms with the free agent running back, according to his agent Lamont Smith.

Thomas had a tryout with the Texans on Wednesday morning along with Ben Malena and Joe McKnight, but the former New Orleans Saints starter reportedly came out on top.

The Texans are on the hunt for a running back to take over for Foster after he suffered a serious groin injury in practice. While he’s seeing a specialist to find out the severity of the injury and the next step to recover, early indications are not good and Pete Prisco of CBS Sports reported that the groin muscle may have been torn off the bone.

Even with the addition of another running back, the starting running back duties for the Texans are likely to be turned over to Alfred Blue. The 2014 sixth-round pick started three games for the team as a rookie and tallied 528 yards and two touchdowns.

Thomas, 30, played eight seasons for the Saints, racking up 3,745 yards and 28 rushing touchdowns, along with 2,608 receiving yards and 12 touchdown receptions.
