Once upon a time there was a quasi-rivalry between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers, but meeting just once every four years has a way of throwing water on any potential tension between two teams. The rivalry stemmed from the Panthers and Jaguars being the two teams to enter the NFL in 1995 and the battle that came between the two budding franchises over everything from the expansion draft to the color of the tongue in the Jaguars' logo.

Injuries and newcomers leave a lot of questions to be answered for the Panthers and Jaguars in Week 1.
Still, a lot of things change on an NFL roster in four years, and there are plenty of differences between the two rosters that last faced each other in a rainy game in 2011, the rookie seasons of Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert.
Gabbert has since been dispatched from Jacksonville and the Jaguars are now pinning their hopes on Blake Bortles, another first-round pick who struggled as a rookie. What has the Jaguars excited, though, was his stellar showing in preseason when Bortles led an offense full of young players on several successful drives, completing 65 percent of his passes for 461 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
He'll look to take that momentum into the regular season against a Panthers defense that finished 10th in the NFL in total yards allowed in 2014. However, that Carolina defense has suffered some injuries and will be without defensive tackle Star Lotulelei.
On offense, the Panthers have suffered some dings, too, and will be without wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin for the season. That puts even more pressure on Newton to make things happen behind an offensive line that doesn't have the most promising pair of projected starters at offensive tackle.
With Benjamin gone, it's hard to know what to expect from the Panthers receiving corps, which will put a lot on the shoulders of Philly Brown. Expectations may be a little too high for Devin Funchess, and relying on Ted Ginn is less than ideal, but the Panthers can feel comfortable about the contributions of Greg Olsen, who had his first career 1,000-yard season in 2014.
If there was a strength of the Jaguars in 2014 during a 3-13 season, it was on the defensive side of the ball, where the team finished sixth in the NFL with 45 sacks. Defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks led the team in sacks with 8.5, but is still recovering from an ACL tear at the end of the 2014 season that will keep him out of action for the beginning of this year.
Despite being the road team traveling to EverBank Field, the Panthers are still three-point favorites over the Jaguars for Week 1, according to OddsShark. Oddsmakers expect it to be a low-scoring affair with the over/under set at 41.
