Randy Bullock entered Sunday having hit 66 of 66 career extra point attempts. But after his first try from the new longer, 32-yard distance, he’s now 66 for 67:
Randy Bullock of the Texans is the first kicker to miss the new, longer extra point
Put his name in the history books!
The Texans now trail the Chiefs 14-6 instead of 14-7. We’ll see how they attempt to make up that extra point as the game goes on.
As I wrote back in May, the NFL hasn’t necessarily made the extra point an exciting play, but it has made them difficult enough that a game might be effected every once in a while, which is pretty much the worst-case scenario.
This is the first miss with the longer extra point in effect, but it’s worth noting that there still won’t be a ton of misses. You can expect kickers to make between 95 and 97 percent of their extra points, based on how often kickers have made 30-35 yarders and kicks between the hashmarks in past years, If we extrapolate that out, you should expect about two to four missed extra points a week.
