New York Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie suffered a knee sprain against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, the team announced. Cromartie left the game after suffering the non-contact injury and did not return. The fact that it's just a sprain is significant, as many were thinking it could be ACL-related when he went down on his own away from the ball.
Antonio Cromartie diagnosed with knee sprain after MRI
Antonio Cromartie suffered a non-contact injury away from the ball against the Browns, and had to be helped off the field.

Cromartie underwent tests on Monday to determine the extent of the injury. This is quite a bit better news than originally expected. As you can see below, former Chargers team doctor David Chao posted a vine of the play and speculated at a diagnosis that would put Cromartie out for the season:
“Non-contact, knee hyperextension away from ball. Fear on Antonio Cromartie dreaded 3 letters, starts with A.”
Cromartie is a longtime veteran of the NFL and one of the Jets' top cornerbacks. He was brought in this offseason to start opposite Darrelle Revis, forming one of the scariest combinations of starting cornerbacks in the NFL. If he has to miss any time, it would be a big deal for the Jets, but the team did also bring in Buster Skrine this offseason, and it's likely he'll step up if needed.
Cromartie was playing in his 144th career game, with 374 tackles and 31 interceptions to this point in his career.
